Congratulations to Justin B from St. Louis who was the first person to respond to the question…name that priest. He knew that it was Fr. Dave Dwyer who worked at MTV, helped Adam Sandler and many famous comedians get into the business and now works for Busted Halo, a web and radio ministry for young Catholics. Fr. Dave also has a radio show, very popular among teens and young adults, on the Sirius Catholic Channel (158), every evening from 6 – 8 p.m. Our own Paul Masek was interviewed on this hip show in October; we plan on posting that interview as a future podcast, by the way. Anyway, Justin won a copy of the book "Dateable: Are You, Are They?".

Beware of an upcoming children's thriller "The Golden Compass". With Nicole Kidman as the leading woman, it will most likely be publicized a lot, but do not be fooled into believing that this movie or the book series behind it is simply harmless fun for kids. Protect your younger siblings and cousins from the powerful and blatant anti-Catholicism and anti-Christian messages which become especially clear in the 2nd and 3rd books/movies in the series. The author of these stories has made his personal bias against Christianity public knowledge. These stories will confuse and can lead Christian kids away from trusting that which is the pure love and goodness of God. This article explains more about the movie and the book series.
Have you seen the movie "Bella"? This Toronto Film Festival award winner stars a gorgeous former Mexican soap opera star and beautifully shows the hope and freedom in considering life over abortion. Since the movie celebrates life so profoundly, Hollywood would be shocked if this movie does well in the theaters. It's out now in theaters in St. Louis. Here's a great article on the movie.
"Growing up, I felt like the only way I could be happy with myself was if someone else loved me. I've always attached myself to people because that's where I found my love. I've got a lot of insecurities about the way I look. That's why I work out so much. And I'm always comparing myself to other people, wondering if I'm good enough." – Pussycat Dolls' Nicole Scherzinger, Vibe, May 2007, pg. 36

Heather's recent ramblings: ummm…not even one!!! She's been busy getting married, then pregnant and breaking her leg since the last newsletter! She says her new blog will discuss whether the wait for marriage was really worth it. Rumor has it, she thinks it was beyond what she imagined. We'll have to wait to read it in her own words. Congrats, Heather and Michael, on the marriage and pregnancy.

Homosexuality & Ordination of Female Priests?
As it is such a sensitive topic in our culture, we know we can hardly scratch the surface on the many complexities involved in same sex attractions and the mainstream focus these have gained in the last 20 – 30 years. However, many young Catholics are confused about how to view homosexuality, what to do if they experience same sex attractions and how to respond to friends who have same sex attractions. Hopefully, the following links will shed some light on Church teaching and why everyone in the world is called to the same joy, peace and love that only comes from chastity – no one is excluded.
Q & A – Answered by Paul and Heather
–Could I be gay?
–I have gay friends. (How should I respond to them?)
–What is the deal with the Church's teaching on homosexuality? (includes links to fascinating articles)
Ordination of "Female Priests"?
Why are females not "allowed" to be priests in the Catholic Church? Well, there actually is an inherent, beautiful reason the Church calls women to other forms of leadership in the Church. The Church is especially in love with the unique gifts of women and in not calling them to the priesthood, we actually celebrate gender differences more than the Churches that believe everyone is exactly the same. We hold the same dignity and should be treated equally, but our roles in life are unique. As a woman (Heather writing here) who has led many major groups in my life, I must admit that I once wondered why I could not be a priest. Once I dug deeper into the meaning of my life, the meaning of the priesthood and my call to be a woman, I fell in love with the Church's call for men to be priests. If you don't know the reasons why (a patriarchical society is not one of them, by the way), I encourage you to read the documents below. Someone, someday, if you are a practicing Catholic, will ask you the question – guaranteed.

Catholic Men for Christ – is hosting a conference for Catholic men this March in St. Louis! This Conference is about Life…about SAVING the lives of God's Warrior Men. So many of us face trials and evils every single day and we run from it, dodge and duck it and do not face them due to fear. We are just "surviving" each day and not truly LIVING for Christ.

The Lie of Christmas by Walt Mueller
In Advent, the Christian population relives a double movement of the spirit: On one hand, it raises its gaze to the final goal of its pilgrimage in history, which is the glorious return of the Lord Jesus; on the other, recalling his birth in Bethlehem with emotion, it bends down before the crib. The hope of Christians is directed to the future, but always remains well rooted in the past.
