I have not signed my chastity card yet because I am not sure that I can make that promise to myself. As much as I want to and as hard as I am going to try, I don’t want to make myself a promise that I am not so sure I can keep.
It’s not an easy decision, and living it can often be a great challenge (trust me, I know from experience that the temptation to be impure can be great). However, chastity most certainly CAN be done. Four quick stories…
1. My sister and I (she is now married w/2 kids) waited-she was 23 when married (dated her now husband for 6 years) and I’m still waiting at 26. Although we both dated, we’ve had enough desire and the help of the Holy Spirit to save ourselves and remain pure. 2. My friend Ronnie was seriously dating Kirk. He noticed that sex in their relationship was hurting her relationship with God and affecting her in small ways. HE stopped having sex, although he could have continued. He did not want her to be hurt in ANY way. They waited until their wedding night. 3. Kris, a college friend of mine (and a very good-looking guy), had a naked female friend waiting in his bed one night when he came back from a party. She was ready and willing, and he’s a guy-they’re much more visually tempted than women. He stood at the door and told her to put on her clothes and he’d drive her home. Although he’s been in several serious relationships, he’s still a virgin. 4. Kurt Warner (Rams’ QB) and his wife, one year before they were married, realized that pre-marital sex was not part of God’s plan, although they had been living together (and having sex) for many months. They still lived together, so he could help with her kids, but refrained from having sex until their wedding night.
So, if God can help Kurt and Brenda Warner stay chaste while living together, I think He can help you. Jesus said, “With people it is impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God.” Matt 19:26

Sometimes, real life is too funny! TRUE STORIES…
Recently, when I went to McDonald’s I saw on the menu that you could have an order of 6, 9 or 12 Chicken McNuggets. I asked for a half dozen nuggets. “We don’t have half dozen nuggets,” said the teenager at the counter. “You don’t?” I replied. “We only have six, nine, or twelve,” was the reply.
I was in a car dealership a while ago, when a large motor home was towed into the garage. The front of the vehicle was in dire need of repair and the whole thing generally looked like an extra in Twister. I asked the manager what had happened. He told me that the driver had set the “cruise control” and then went in the back to make a sandwich.
A lady at work was seen putting a credit card into her floppy drive and pulling it out very quickly. When inquired as to what she was doing, she said she was shopping on the Internet and they kept asking for a credit card number, so she was using the ATM “thingy”.

CURRENT EVENTS…Scandals in the Archdiocese of St. Louis-How should we respond?
The article at this website was already sent out by Paul to everyone on our list. If you haven’t already read it, please do so…you’ll be glad you spent the time. I also encourage you to email this article to a friend. It has blessed so many people on our email list, maybe it can bless family members or friends of yours who are struggling with understanding the scandals and how we should respond as Catholics.
You may also want to check out this great information – the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has put together valuable resources regarding sexual abuse of minors by clergy. You may find it valuable to review these.
Cute Joke: A little girl was sitting on her grandfather’s lap as he read her a bedtime story. From time to time, she would take her eyes off the book and reach up to touch his wrinkled cheek. She was alternately stroking her own cheek, then his again. Finally she spoke up, “Grandpa, did God make you?” “Yes, sweetheart,” he answered, “God made me a long time ago.” “Oh,” she paused, “Grandpa, did God make me too?” “Yes, indeed, honey,” he said, “God made you just a little while ago.”
Feeling their respective faces again, she observed, “God’s getting better at it, isn’t he?”

The desire for God is written in the human heart, because man is created by God and for God . . . only in God will he find the truth and happiness he never stops searching for.
–The Catechism of the Catholic Church
Much more is accomplished by a single word of the Our Father said, now and then, from our heart, than by the whole prayer repeated many times in haste and without attention.
I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen. Not only because I see it, but because I see everything by it.
